Long-term care is a crisis that's been hiding in PLAIN SIGHT...
far too long.
Tracy C's Story
Greenville, SC

I worked in a nursing home facility and loved my job until I realized that patients were being mistreated, over medicated and not given the therapy promised. This is Ken he is a current resident at a facility and I have been working tirelessly to get someone to hear his story and find him help. Ken had a massive stroke about 7 years ago and when he chose this facility he was told there would be 5 day a week therapy that he would receive so in hopes of him being able to return to his life at home. Fast forward to 5 years him being in this facility and I start my first CNA job there. Overtime after watching and seeing some horrendous things, I was assigned to Ken’s cottage and was able to hear first hand how for almost 5 years he has not gotten out of bed. He has had zero therapy and has asked repeatedly for help. When he first came to the facility for about the first year he was receiving therapy he said maybe two days a week was able to get up, walk with assistance to the bathroom and was able to sit in a chair. One day he said when therapy came to get him up something in his knee popped and he couldn’t bear weight on it any longer. So at that point therapy was never done again. He has more UTIs than any human should and they don’t get addressed in a timely manner and he becomes very delusional. Once I decided to stop working as a CNA after another death of a patient that I still to this day know was morphine overdose along with several others they have done it to also. This company that owns these nursing homes here in Greenville, Greer, and multiple other counties have had so many violations of patient neglect and improper infection control is unreal. Ken is just one of the many residents that has been left to die with no care at all. I go as much as I can and I myself have gotten him up and into a chair, I have cleaned his father and super pubic because it never gets done. I have called the Department of Aging and turned this place in so many times it’s almost like they don’t care. It’s time that Ken and all other residents get the help they deserve before they become the next to die in this facility. No one should be treated this way in the final stages of life or for that matter at all. South Carolina in general has many many many nasty, unlivable places that these people are paying to live in and not receive the care that not only they deserve but require to be able to have normalcy. The quality of nurses here and CNAs are very subpar. They don’t care and it is very clear they don’t and I am not even going to get started with DONs or ADONs . From my experiences only I think that if you have zero empathy and don’t give a damn and are only in this for the money than move on and that if you know what is going on (which they do) than your license should be pulled and you should be charged clinically. I speak for Ken with his permission but I also stand for all people who deserve to be treated with dignity and care. The pictures I posted have been sent from Nurses who work in this facility who have found patient meds hidden and not given out. How dirty this place stays and all of this has been turned into the Corporation and the Atate and still nothing gets done. Ken still does not get help to get up he lays in a bed all day and night.
